One person has lost their life and another is in serious condition after an attempted armed robbery on the Bimbilla-Yendi road in the Northern Region.
This incident took place on Monday night, November 2, between 8 pm and 9 pm, when six individuals riding on three motorbikes were heading back to their community after attending a naming ceremony.
An eyewitness reported that the group was attacked when suspected robbers began shooting at them. The deceased, who was an operator, was on the middle motorbike with another person when they were shot and fell off.
The riders of the other two motorbikes reportedly called the police for help.
The two injured individuals were taken to the hospital, where the deceased was declared dead upon arrival. The other victim, who is in critical condition, was transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for additional treatment.
An eyewitness from the group mentioned that they did not see the attackers and that none of their belongings were stolen.
Police in Bimbilla confirmed the incident to Citi News after officers visited the crime scene on Tuesday morning. They stated that investigations are currently underway.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Bimbilla Hospital morgue.
