A 29-year-old tricycle driver named Naah Mashood has been sentenced to 14 years in prison with hard labor for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Tiegber, located in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The Upper West Regional Police Command reported that Mashood was found guilty after a complete trial at the Wa High Court on October 30, 2026.
As stated in a police announcement released on November 2, 2026, Mashood was arrested on February 24, 2026, by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) after the victim’s mother filed a complaint.
According to the police, the suspect was hired by the child’s parent to pick her up from school on February 23, 2026, but instead, he took her to a secluded area and assaulted her inside his tricycle, which is locally referred to as a ‘cambuu’.
“The convict, who was hired by the parent to collect the victim from school, deceived her into going to a hidden spot on February 23, 2026, and sexually assaulted her in his tricycle (Cambuu),” the statement explained.
After thorough investigations, Mashood was brought before the Wa District Magistrate Court and later faced trial at the Wa High Court.
The police indicated that after a complete trial, the defendant was convicted of defilement and sentenced by Justice Osei-Wusu to 14 years in prison with hard labor.
The Upper West Regional Police Command praised the officers who worked on the investigation and prosecution of this case, as well as the community members who helped ensure justice was achieved.
The Command also urged parents and guardians to be vigilant about their children’s safety.
Additionally, they encouraged the public to report any suspected cases of child abuse and defilement to the nearest police station or DOVVSU office for immediate action.
The Police Command reiterated its dedication to safeguarding children and ensuring that those who commit sexual offenses are held accountable.
