US President Donald Trump has agreed to provide an immediate visa for the mother of Javits Frimpong, a Ghanaian boy who was murdered, thanks to the efforts of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, as announced by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ablakwa also mentioned that the Ghanaian government would fully cover the expenses for the mother’s trip to the United States so she can pay her final respects to her son.
In a Facebook update on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the minister expressed gratitude for Mamdani’s intervention and President Trump’s prompt action, calling it a timely response to the family’s needs.
“This is greatly appreciated, @NYCMayor. The Government of Ghana values your intervention and President Trump’s swift decision,” he stated.
Earlier, Mamdani had shared on X that Trump had agreed to issue an immediate visa to the boy’s mother following a phone call with the US president.
“The murder of a child is a sorrow no parent should have to face, especially from so far away,” the New York mayor wrote.
“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves the chance to say goodbye to her son in person. I just spoke with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her visa right away,” he added.
Ablakwa mentioned that he had talked with the mother, Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, on Friday and had directed officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help her with the visa application.
He also stated that the Mahama administration is ready to assist with the costs for a respectful funeral for Javits.
“The Mahama Administration will cover all expenses for Madam Adu Gyamfi’s travel and is also prepared to help with a dignified funeral,” he said.
The minister concluded by emphasizing that the government is dedicated to collaborating with relevant parties to ensure justice for the murdered boy.
