Retired Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator Captain John Kwame Jabari has unveiled intentions to establish a coordinated task force comprising military and National Security personnel to conduct systematic patrols throughout the Kumasi–Accra Expressway project corridor. This initiative follows the apprehension of 15 individuals suspected of participating in unlawful sand extraction operations. During an appearance on Eyewitness News on Thursday, October 15, Captain Jabari explained that the security agencies possess adequate manpower to sustain the patrol operation. However, he refrained from revealing the specific schedule for these patrols, emphasizing that regular military and National Security presence would be essential to deter not only sand-winning violations but also other potential offences in the area. "A joint task force has been established to conduct patrols along that route. I prefer not to disclose the specific days and times for these patrols. Nevertheless, military and National Security personnel should maintain frequent presence on that route to prevent various offences, extending beyond sand-winning activities," he stated. The security deployment was prompted by the arrest of 15 suspects engaged in sand-winning operations within the Sewua–Donyina–Appiadu region of the Ashanti Region. The apprehension occurred on Wednesday, October 14, during a National Security operation that also resulted in the seizure of six vehicles, including a wheel loader. According to Assistant Liaison Officer Ivan Bilson Yeboah, the detained individuals have been transferred to the National Security headquarters in Accra for custody and ongoing investigations.
