The Volta North Regional Police Command has apprehended an individual accused of making threats against another person's life, illegally possessing firearms, and cultivating what is believed to be cannabis in Alavanyo-Dzogbedze within the Kpando District. The accused, identified as Saviour Dzadze, was apprehended on October 14, 2026, at the Kpando Circuit Court premises following a complaint from Dodzi Kpakpamikpe, who reportedly identified him as the person responsible for threatening his life. According to law enforcement, officers subsequently escorted the accused and the complainant to a residential cottage suspected to be the accused's residence at Alavanyo-Dzogbedze. A thorough examination of the property resulted in the discovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, a pump-action shotgun, a locally constructed single-barrel firearm, 10 rounds of live AAA Lion ammunition, and a quantity of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis. During questioning, Saviour Dzadze reportedly stated to investigators that his brother, Foster Dzadze, an electrician employed in Accra, had provided him with the pump-action shotgun, while he received the single-barrel firearm as an inheritance from his deceased father. He additionally stated that he obtained the AK-47 rifle through a trade agreement with an individual known only as Komla, who allegedly traded the weapon in exchange for cannabis produced by the accused. The accused reportedly indicated that he was unaware of Komla's specific location. Law enforcement indicated that ongoing efforts are being made to locate Foster Dzadze and to identify and apprehend Komla. Saviour Dzadze continues to remain in police custody while assisting with the investigation. Marine Police apprehend additional suspect regarding suspected cannabis In a separate matter, the Marine Police unit in Kpando has apprehended a 31-year-old individual, identified as Vincent Lotsu, who is accused of cultivating and possessing what is believed to be cannabis at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. According to law enforcement, officers conducting a routine patrol identified an enclosed wooden structure situated along the Volta Lake on September 13, 2026. An investigation reportedly discovered a cannabis cultivation site and 16 sacks of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis. The individual in question and the seized materials were transferred to the Kpando Divisional Police Investigation Department for further examination. The suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to the crime laboratory for analysis. Vincent Lotsu remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear before a court. The Volta North Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening efforts against unlicensed weapons, narcotics trafficking and associated criminal offenses throughout the region. Regional Police Commander DCOP Amening Oduro cautioned persons engaged in criminal conduct, particularly young people, to cease such behavior, emphasizing that law enforcement would pursue substantiated leads and hold perpetrators accountable in court. DCOP Oduro also recognized the efforts of officers from the Kpando Divisional Command and the Marine Police Unit for their vigilance, rapid action and professional conduct. He acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, for his strategic direction and oversight, and recognized the media's contribution to public awareness and building public trust in the Ghana Police Service. The Command assured the community that citizen protection and public order remain its primary objectives and encouraged residents to report suspected criminal incidents occurring in their neighborhoods. source: Herman Chris Fiakodzo, Akpini Radio, Kpando.
